Yet another SPAMMY Science publisher: Scientific and Academic Publishing
Uggh - just got this email. Seems there is yet another SPAMMY Science Publisher trying to get established. Here's is a suggestion for all. Avoid these kinds of publishers. They probably do more harm than good ... Plus if you can label their emails as SPAM to help out others. And I think posting comments like this will help since when people do google searches they may see the critiques as well as the journal sites.

Just got this press release by email. I am sick of receiving dozens of unsolicited press releases, especially those in topics not related ...
Should I be honored to be receiving the same spam as you at the same timing?
ReplyDeleteI got two. I poked around their web site and wrote a post about them. They have lots of openings for Editor-in-Chief positions at their 133 'journals'!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should sabotage them by taking on all of their Editor-in-Chief positions, and then telling everyone who submits a manuscript to instead send it to a proper journal.
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me
DeleteIf my cat applies to be EiC, do you think they'll give him the job?

The Frontiers in... Journal group may get pissed off when they find that Frontiers in Science has just been taken.
ReplyDeleteI for one am looking forward to the first issues of "The International Journal of Internet of Things"
Ain't capitalism wonderful (for the devious & disreputable!).
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Journal of Irreproducible Results could buy out some of these new-fangled journals, and lend them some quality editorial staff.
And the American Journal of Environmental Engineering has very minor American component:

A graduate student in my department (English!), received a similar email recently which motivated me to look into this company (my search brought me to your site).
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that I noticed about their website (and the email itself) is that the grammar is horrible. Yes, many people have a difficult time with grammar, but this is a (so-called) publisher?
Hi, I just got a longer one. It had my full name (in English and also in Japanese). So is this a spammy one or not? The note looks legit.
ReplyDeleteWhile researching my dissertation, I found an article through the Scientific and Academic Publishing website that was completely plagiarized from a well-known, reputable article written in 2001. All they did was change around the numbers (completely fabricated data!) and the rest was word for word.
ReplyDeleteI took it upon myself to look up their address on Google maps. Interesting that they've listed themselves in the middle of a 6-lane highway! Gee whiz, if they go through all that trouble of making their website look "real," then make an effort to come up with a "real" address! Oh, and they need to update their copyright date-- it's still 2011!
ReplyDeleteIt gets better. The 2012 article in their International Journal of Arts entitled "The Contributions of Postmodernism Methodology as a Prevailing Practice on Ground of Humanities Sciences." by Mohammad Khosravishakib, Department of Persian Language and Literature, Human Science Faculty, Lorestan University, Iran is entirely plagiarised from the Wikipedia article "Manifestations of Postmodernism' .
ReplyDeleteSAP are genuine publishers. At least the journal "Algorithm Research" is a genuine one. I confirmed with all the HIGHLY qualified members on the editorial board by e-mailing them and they replied saying they are on the editorial board. Also, SAP is a member of CrossRef. So, I definitely don't doubt their legitimacy. Also, I can change the contents of wikipedia anytime. So, I am not sure if it really counts as plagiarism.
