Twitter seems to have lost complete control of some spam

Aaarrrrggg ... this is driving me crazy.  For over a month now I have been seeing 10-20-30 or more new followers a day on Twitter that are some sort of SPAM.

For example, a few minutes ago I looked at my most recent followers:

And when I look at them in more detail I see many of them are simply posting links to some SPAMMY sites at the domain "blog.livedoor.jp".  For example

and

and many many many many more.  They are all like this with links to some spammy site at blog.livedoor.jp.  It is so easy to identify these ... but it is a pain.  Why can't Twitter get a handle on this?   I mark them as SPAM - day after day after day.  And more come. Uggh.

  1. I used to run Twitblock - http://twitblock.org - occasionally to get rid of spam followers. However, there are now too many to deal with. I only block those that post @ replies to me.

It amuses me when people boast about their follower count without realising that most are (a) robots (b) people who used Twitter once or (c) people you would rather not have as followers :)

  3. Same here. Been happening for a month or two. I have HUNDREDS of those scumbag accounts on my blocked/spam-reported list, but they just keep coming.

  4. It's happening to me as well, I've been looking for a response by twitter but so far haven't seen anything. I'm worried because the number of spam followers from blog.livedoor.jp just keeps growing.

I'm amazed that Twitter hasn't done anything about this problem yet.

  5. I have the same problem, on my personal account and on the account I manage for work. Both are completely separate and have very different subjects so I'm struggling to find out what's been the cause. It's getting to be a right pain!

  6. Same problem here as well. I had put my account on 'private' for a while, but that didn't stop them from sending requests. And that way, people couldn't retweet my tweets, which is a crucial part of the twitter experience. :s

  7. Same problem here, I wrote a post about it yesterday. This morning I noticed that posts were being sent via 'mobile web' - perhaps we have all authorised the same app? Hoping that one us stumbles on the solution soon - very annoying - please RT this post and my new post with @Support in the tweet.
