Had a bit of a Tweet scream about people promoting fecal transplants to cure all sorts of ailments. Yes fecal transplants are amazing, for C. diff infections. And yes, they are worth testing for other ailments connected to microbes and inflammation. But worth testing is very different than "they should be used for X". So I posted a bit about this. Here is a Storify summary of some of the discussion

I'm still kind of in shock that this shit got so popular. I really didn't think so many people would be so willing, even eager, to engage in a home therapy that involves not only asking your friends if you could please have some of their poop (a potentially friendship-ending conversation if I've ever seen one) but also requires putting poop (Poop!) in your kitchen blender. & all for a claim that appears to have no supporting evidence! Not even claims of a fictional study. People are actually putting *human shit* into a blender, based on what appears to be a random guess by a random schmuck.
ReplyDeletetl/dr; people are dumb & gross.
Also, be careful when borrowing kitchen appliances from the neighbors.
