Nobel Prize in Medicine for Viral Discoveries

Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine goes to Harald zur Hausen, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier for discovery of viruses (HPV and HIV) (see Nobel Announcement - Medicine 2008).

  1. Yes -- this was a bit of surprise -- these people weren't hot candidates in the pre-Nobel gossip.

It's interesting that Montagnier won given his long feud with Gallo over the discovery of HIV. Does this mean the Nobel foundation no longer believes Gallo's version of events?
